Sliders and their Buns - Baking and Cake Art Academy

Sliders are a current trend. Restaurants may serve three  or five small “sliders” on a rectangular plate which is a pleasing number artistically speaking. My students have helped to create and serve thousands of these juicy grilled delights over the past 10 years for International Day which is a school wide festival that celebrates diversity usually occurring in May. We have always billed them as grilled mini- hamburgers which we include with the American station along with potato salad, coleslaw, and apple pie. (This year, due to budget cuts, the Buffalo Wings with their condiments were not included.)

The sliders ( if you will)  are my favorite of all of the foods prepared for this event because I consume little red meat during the year as per nutritional recommendations for a healthy diet.  Our sliders are irresistible because of the patties which are enriched with minced onion, bread crumbs, eggs, and seasonings and then grilled to perfection. I especially look forward to the mini buns that my bakery students hand shape and bake. This year over 1000 of these tender buns were steamed and used for the event. I could consume more than three if I were to lose control.
